FAQs

Thank you for choosing Lola & Me Photography to capture the beauty and spirit of your child. Portraits help you remember what you never wish to forget; that fleeting time in your child’s life, childhood.

Here are some helpful bits of information to prepare you for your upcoming session:

LOCATION:
Your photo session takes place at a location of your choice. You may choose a local spot, a favorite place or your own residence.   We can also provide suggestions from previously successful locations.

YOUR SESSION:
Sessions are never rushed and usually last 1-3 hours, except when booking for an event.*   Young children are encouraged to have snacks, breaks, and play time to keep them happy and relaxed.   I like to have the parents interact with the children (just outside frame) to capture their playful spirit.   I may ask you to blow bubbles, prompt your child to play peek-a-boo, count, sing ABCs etc.   There is really no need to ask your little ones to “smile” or say “cheese”.   Most of my work is spontaneous and impromptu.  My experience is that children smiling and laughing through playful interaction gives the most satisfying and creative images.  For seniors I work with them to make them comfortable and allow them express themselves to capture their true spirit.

On occasion I do use tutus, butterflies, footballs, surf boards and various other items to create a unique image.  I encourage you to bring, or have on hand, your own special items that have meaning to you or your child or teen.   Some examples for young children include: baby blankets (handmade quilts from grandma are great props), hooded towels or robes, personalized diaper covers, hats, favorite books, toys, security objects, etc.

Please bring only those who are going to be photographed to the session, as well as refrain from bringing cameras or other recording devices to the session. While other children are not being photographed, bringing things to keep them entertained, such as a small puzzle, or a coloring book would be great.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Many clients ask me what to wear.   My advice for newborns and infants is that bare skin provides some breath taking images.   For older infants and children bold solid colors photograph well.   Try to eliminate logos or overly busy patterns that can distract from your child.   Hats, boots, scarves and the like can add a fun element to the image.  You’re welcome to bring a change of outfits.   There are no limits to clothing changes, but realize many children get fussy after two, so try to limit the changes to no more then three.   Jeans, overalls, sundresses, khaki’s and bare feet are all preferable.   Complimentary colors work best for family or group shots.   If you would like a wardrobe consultation, I’d be more than happy to do so.  Maternity portraits are best taken 2 months prior to delivery.

FOOD CONSIDERATIONS:
A full tummy helps keep babies and children happy and satisfied during their portrait session, but please be careful of what foods they eat before their session. Carrots and sweet potatoes are a sweet treat for baby, but can sometimes leave an orange tint on baby’s skin. This tint may not always be noticeable to the human eye, but the camera’s lens can pick up on such skin discoloration. Other foods such as spaghetti, lollipops and candy may also color the skin. Also, if you feed your baby lots of orange foods, their skin may give off an orange glow around the nose and mouth, but unlike food, this cannot be wiped away.

FEELING UNDER THE WEATHER:
If your child is sick or feeling under the weather, kindly call me to reschedule. I’m a mother myself, and I understand that sometimes children get sick. I want your child to enjoy the photo session, and a sick child may not feel like having his or her portraits taken. I would appreciate if you could call to reschedule as soon as it’s apparent he or she is ill. Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

No need to fret when your child gets a small boo-boo on his or her face days before the photo session. Minor re-touching is included in Lola & Me Photography’s print prices.

BOOKING:
Once you book a session we will have a consultation to discuss what your expectations might be regarding the shoot.   I like to get an idea of what you have in mind, what occasion you might be shooting for, clothing selections, etc.  If you’re not sure, that’s fine…I have plenty of ideas and will create a mix of original styles that I feel suit the subject and surroundings.

*Event booking and pricing is customized to your specific needs.   A consultation will be provided to determine your needs.   Please contact the studio for more information.

PROOFS:
Proofs will be available approximately 3-4 weeks after your session.   A link to an executable slideshow will be e-mailed for you to choose your prints and to share with family and friends.   You will also be given a password to access your proofing gallery.    Orders can be made through the gallery.   Your slideshow and your gallery will expire after 7 days.   Orders must be made and paid for prior to the 7 days in order to receive any discount currently being offered (SEE: NEWS section).   If a longer time period is necessary for ordering, this should be discussed prior to your session.    Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery once your order is complete.

Please keep in mind that monitors and monitor settings vary and what you see on your monitor could differ from the actual print images.
